Airstream New Formula Green Glycol Fluid by Alde, Gallon - 360371-301C
To ensure proper performance and lifespan of the Alde system, glycol must be properly maintained and exhibit the following qualities:
- Consists of a 50% distilled water and 50% glycol mixture
- Maintain a 7.5-8.5% pH value
- Fill level should remain at approximately 0.5 in (1 cm) above the “Minimum” indicator of the expansion tank while cold
- Must be replaced every (2) years
NOTE: Airstream and Alde announced replacement upgrade to replace the glycol in 2018, 2019 and early 2020 Classics to a new Alde fluid. The new glycol fluid has been improved for better performance. In addition to replacing the glycol, two grounds will also need to be added to the system. Some units may have one ground already installed. See your service dealership for this modification.
This new formula glycol was introduced in May of 2020.
The Alde central heating and hot water boiler is a hydronic system that works by circulating hot glycol fluid through pipes while convectors located along the outer walls heat the air. As the hot air rises it heats the walls and surrounding furniture. When the warm air reaches the ceiling it circulates back down to the floor and is reheated by the convectors. The built-in water heater automatically adjusts its power output to match demand to ensure maximum efficiency operating on either LPG, 120V or both. The compact design allows for all connections to be located on the front of the boiler which allows for easy access and maximizes usable space.
Both LP Gas and electric heating use hot glycol fluid to heat the space in the RV. In order to achieve the best possible results from convected heat, it is important to allow air to circulate freely. Ensure that the air supply to the convectors is not obstructed in any way. It is just as important that cushions or blankets do not interrupt the flow of air behind backrests and wall cabinets.
WARNING The heating system must be filled with a mixture of water and glycol. Use only high quality ready-mixed Propylene glycol (with inhibitor) intended for use in aluminum heating systems. The glycol must carry the label GRAS (generally recognized as safe). Alde recommends only using ALDE brand glycol specifically formulated for the Alde heating system.
